The Boys are Back (2009)

This film, based on the novel by Simon Carr, features Clive Owen as a man whose wife dies and leaves him to take care of his young son.  The grieving father choses some unconditional parenting methods to help his son deal with his grief.  Thrown into the mix is an older son from his first marriage who comes to stay with him while he is still grappling with the loss of the love of his life.  "The Boys are Back" is an emotional film that made me tear up several times.  The story is compelling, very real, slow at times, and often depressing.  I give this film 3 ½ stars out of 5.
